Huntington Children’s Museum

The Huntington Children’s Museum is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Play Guides. These positions are pivotal in providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all guests. As the primary point of contact, Play Guides perform a crucial role in creating a positive first impression and ensuring a memorable experience for guests.

This position would be filling in when other staff are unavailable or call off and working events outside of regular business hours. Must be available weekends. $15/hour

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in visitors as they enter the museum, collect payments, and instruct visitors on museum protocol while they are visiting
  • Promote learning through play
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization of the front desk, play areas, and restrooms.
  • Engage with guests to provide information about exhibits, events, and activities.
  • Foster a customer-oriented approach by actively listening to guest feedback and striving to exceed their expectations.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a seamless guest experience throughout the museum.
  • Collect guest information, encourage enrollment in the membership program, and sign up visitors from the Museum’s email newsletter.
  • Facilitate sales in the museum store and restock merchandise as needed
  • Balance cash register daily

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Cash handling and basic computer skills
  • Flexibility to work on special projects during slow times
  • Highly perceptive and disciplined, able to anticipate and address guest needs proactively.
  • Ability to handle complaints and difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a genuine desire to create a positive experience for all visitors.
  • Experience in working with both families and young children.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment (Working at a desk and computer throughout the workday, including repetitive keyboard use)
  • Frequent to constant standing and walking throughout the workday
  • Occasional climbing of step stools and ladders
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs
  • Moderate noise levels

Background Checks

A criminal history background check will be required.
