Job Title: Museum Educator

  • Salary: $20,000 – $40,000

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Education, Arts & Humanities, or a related field preferred; Child Development Associate (CDA) certification is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience in formal or informal educational settings, such as early childhood education, elementary education, museum education, after-school programs, or camp counseling preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
  • Creative, multitasking capabilities with a genuine passion for working with young children.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at connecting with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, able to address challenges swiftly and effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset, capable of engaging with diverse groups, including children, caregivers, staff, and community partners.
  • Customer service-oriented, focused on creating positive and enriching visitor experiences.
  • Highly organized with effective time management skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and interact with children and families for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays; outdoor activities may be required.
  • A deep appreciation for the magic of early childhood learning.
  • Warm, enthusiastic, and engaging demeanor.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a welcoming and stimulating environment for children and their families.
  • Actively engage with children, caregivers, and schools to cultivate a culture of respect and empathy.
  • Develop and implement engaging experiences that inspire learning, including group tours, daily guest interactions, youth programs, and special after-hours events.
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead educational events, including school field trips, lectures, and special workshops.
  • Create pre- and post-visit materials for teachers.
  • Promote field trip opportunities to local schools and daycares. 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers with an education-based focus.
  • Oversee Play Guide staff and volunteers on an as-needed basis.
  • Evaluate and improve programs through feedback from participants.
  • Oversee public outreach and community engagement initiatives related to education.
  • Establish and maintain superior relationships with schools, youth organizations, and community members.
  • Develop hands-on learning activities related to exhibitions.
  • Participate in the design of summer camp and after-school program content, as well as participating in the conduct of summer camp.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, staff, and community stakeholders to build positive relationships and foster collaboration.
  • Address guest requests, complaints, and praises in a helpful manner to enhance visitor satisfaction and resolve issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with museum staff to align with Huntington Children’s Museum’s mission and goals.
  • Provide regular updates to the Executive Director on progress of educational programming and special events.
  • Stay informed on research-based practices, including interpretive content delivery and safety standards for Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
  • Manage the inventory and organization of educational materials and resources to meet programming needs.
  • Utilize digital platforms such as Canva and Google Drive to support educational programs.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as required or assigned.
